Things to Do Before Coming

  • Talk about what they can wear this day - wearing period clothes makes the day more fun!

  • Share ideas of what to bring for lunch.

  • One adult for every five students may be requested if doing the full-day program.

  • Please discuss with students behavior expectations before coming on site. This is not only for the enjoyment of all, but also for safety reasons.

  • If choosing the 'Home Life' program, please suggest that students wear sun screen and wear layered clothing as at least half of the session will be outside (unless thundering and lightning).

  • If over 90 degrees, students are encouraged to bring a water bottle and air conditioning will be on in the building.

  • Teach them one of the lunch recess games as a part of your social studies class.

Things to Do While at the Schoolhouse

  • Lunch time is 30 to 45 minutes dependent upon your arrival/departure. Picnic tables are available outside. All trash should be collected and the grounds should be left trash-free. (Please bring a trash bag with you.) Supervision should be handled by classroom teacher and other staff members. A bathroom break is included within the lunch time. If students finish lunch early, have them play one or more of the games 1890's children would play.

  • The classroom teacher is encouraged to interact with students throughout the day, particularly if behavior is not appropriate or unsafe. Safety is one of our priorities.

  • Please ask permission to take any photos.

Things to Do After Leaving

  • Debrief with students once returning to school. Using students' ideas and words, complete the survey.
