By now, you have received an email from Kathleen updating you on a number of things. In our most recent meeting with Amy from Borton Overseas, she suggested that if you wish to have a sit-down dinner on May 17th (Syttende Mai), you should book ahead while you are in the states. This is one of the few dinners that is not provided.
The majority of the day’s events will happen at Festeplassen (literally translated to ‘the party place’) and there will be food stands all around. Today is the day to eat as much polse and ice cream as you wish – just like the Norwegians! But, if you prefer dinner, I did a Google search of all the possible places to eat around Festeplassen within a six-block radius. On the list, you will find cafes, bakeries, take-outs, and restaurants. I know nothing about them, as I have never eaten around Festeplassen, so the list is just based on my research.
A few Norwegian words to help you out in your quest: mat – food; bestiller – order; meny – menu; forrett – appetizer; hovedrett – main course; kylling – chicken; beef – storfekjøtt; pork – svinekjøtt; fisk – fish.
Another option is to order food from a restaurant and have it delivered. The two big delivery companies seem to be Foodora and Wolt Delivery.
