Since the last time I’ve been in Norway, the country has become a virtual cashless society. Almost everything is done through credit and debit cards. Amy, from Borton’s, recently confirmed that very fact.
I’ve used my credit cards in other countries with no issues and with no pin numbers. However, in a fairly recent article from The Norway Guide, a website dedicated to Norway and Norwegian culture, the author stressed that when going to Norway, take your credit card AND pin number with you. I strongly encourage you to read the article.
Given this new information, I contacted both my credit card companies as I thought I only had a pin number for my debit card. Lo and behold, I was wrong. I had pin numbers for both cards, and easily changed the numbers for ones that I will easily remember. I now can leave for Norway knowing I have BOTH my credit cards and pin numbers.
Take a moment of your time to locate the pin number(s) for your credit card(s). You won’t be sorry!
I read that if your card has TAP (symbol below) you won't need a PIN. Evidently it is the most common way to use a credit or debit card in Norway. Of course sometimes TAP doesn't work so it is probably best to have a PIN just in case.
I was hoping to use my debit card for cash withdrawals at ATMs in Norway since using a credit card for cash accrues interest from the moment you withdraw cash. Do you know if it is possible to use a debit card for cash withdrawals? And, when we would need a pin for a credit card - would it only be for cash withdrawals or would we have to use the Cred card pin when paying for good and services? Thanks for your help!
