Enjoy using a straw when drinking something cold and refreshing? Want to purchase something in Norway? Then know you might need to bring some additional items with you.
Norway has a reputation of being Earth-friendly and is definitely a green country. Since 2019, it has looked at eliminating single use plastics. Since then, stores, grocery stores, restaurants, and even local cruise ships and fast-food places have looked at ways to become greener.
“Such disposable products can relatively easily be replaced with other disposable products in other materials, or preferably in reusable products. The phasing out has already come a long way for some of the products. We expect that cheaper alternatives will be available on the market in the next few years,” says Ellen Hambro, director of the Norwegian Environment Agency.
When you arrive in Norway, you may see stores selling glass and metal drinking straws, charging for a shopping bag or using a paper sack. If you don’t want to take the time to shop for these things, bring a metal straw with you, or even a cloth shopping bag.
Norway is also big on recycling and like many places in the states, labels its containers. Watch for those labels as we travel through Norway. We all want to be kind to Mother Earth!
